The role
We are interested in senior backend developers who can build services that remain understandable and dependable as integrations multiply. The work centres on APIs, asynchronous processing and clear operational ownership. You would collaborate with frontend teams, architects and platform engineers to define contracts and failure behaviour, then carry solutions through testing and release. What you would work on
- Design and implement Node.js and TypeScript APIs with clear resource models, validation, authorization and useful error responses for consumers.
- Build integrations using AWS serverless services and event-driven patterns, choosing retry, idempotency and dead-letter approaches appropriate to the workflow.
- Work with Kafka or similar messaging platforms where ordered, traceable exchange between systems is needed; document schemas and ownership boundaries.
- Write automated unit, contract and integration tests, and support safe deployment with logging, metrics and alerts that reveal processing failures.
- Review designs and code for security, maintainability and operational risk, and help colleagues investigate defects across service boundaries.
Essential experience
- Substantial production experience with Node.js, TypeScript, API design and data persistence, including decisions about consistency and failure recovery.
- Ability to explain authentication, authorization, input handling, secrets and privacy considerations in a service you have delivered.
- Experience testing integrations, diagnosing distributed failures and communicating technical trade-offs to engineers and non-engineers.
Useful additional experience
- AWS Lambda, message queues, Kafka or Confluent, and schema evolution in environments with multiple independent consumers.
- Java services, infrastructure as code, or migration from point-to-point integrations to documented event contracts.
