The role
We are interested in staff engineers who can improve a group of teams’ technical decisions without becoming a bottleneck. You would remain hands-on where it helps, align interfaces and patterns across services, and mentor engineers through difficult design and delivery choices. The scope is broader than a senior developer’s feature ownership but focused enough to turn direction into working code and operating practice. You would help teams make decisions they can sustain. This specific role supports ongoing recruitment; assignment details would be discussed if an opportunity arises.
What you would work on
- Identify recurring engineering problems across teams and lead a practical design for interfaces, shared capabilities or migration steps.
- Prototype or implement critical paths, review designs and code, and make trade-offs around reliability, security and maintainability explicit.
- Work with product and delivery leads to sequence technical work alongside user-facing changes and explain why investment is needed.
- Mentor engineers through pairing, design discussions and clear feedback, creating room for others to own implementation decisions.
- Use production evidence, incidents and developer feedback to revisit standards and remove practices that no longer serve teams.
Essential experience
- Deep software engineering experience plus examples of technical influence across more than one team or substantial subsystem.
- Ability to lead design and still write, review or debug production code in the area you guide.
- Strong communication and mentorship, including gaining agreement without relying solely on formal management authority.
Useful additional experience
- Modernizing a platform incrementally, improving developer experience or setting engineering practices across mixed technology stacks.
- Helping teams address operational risk through observability, safe rollout patterns and incident learning.
What to include in your application
Send your résumé and describe a technical change that crossed team boundaries. Explain the problem, your hands-on contribution, how you built alignment and what changed for engineers or users. Include a decision you delegated and how you supported the engineer who owned it. A sanitized design note or code sample is optional. Please apply to the Staff Engineer posting so your résumé is associated with this level and role.
